Costs & setup
A notebook first. AI when you want it.
Notations is currently free to use. Optional AI services have their own account requirements and usage charges.
Notebook access
Sign in with Google to create your notebook. You can write, organize, search by keyword, sync notes, and export Markdown without adding an AI key. No AI setup is required to get started.
Connecting an existing assistant
When you connect an external assistant through MCP, that assistant’s plan, limits, and connection availability apply. Notations does not include an assistant subscription. See how AI connections work.
Using the in-app assistant
Add your own API key for a supported provider. Any API usage is billed by that provider under its terms. A chat subscription and an API account can have separate billing.
Semantic retrieval and cloud voice
Meaning-based retrieval requires a separate OpenAI embeddings key and an indexed notebook. Cloud text-to-speech also requires your own supported provider credentials. These are optional; ordinary keyword search and writing do not require them.
Before bringing your whole notebook
Try a few notes, check the import and export options, and read the privacy policy. You can start with the core notebook and configure AI later.
