Bring your existing writing into Notations. Keep the option to take it elsewhere.
How do I import notes?
- Export your existing notebook as Markdown, or collect the files you want to bring over.
- Open the import section in Notations Settings.
- Select loose files or a ZIP archive, choose a destination, and analyze the import.
- Review the preview before importing.
The importer recognizes supported Notion and Obsidian export structures, extracts note metadata, and maps folders. Try a small representative selection first, especially if your notes use complex embeds or app-specific features.
Will everything transfer exactly?
Markdown writing is the portable core. Notion database behavior, Obsidian plugins, and app-specific layouts are not reproduced as working features. Review imported formatting, images, and links before moving a whole collection.
What can I export?
Download your notes as a ZIP of Markdown files, or export a folder or selection. The archive preserves writing and basic metadata, including dates, tags, and iteration identifiers.
The current ZIP export does not bundle hosted image files or preserve every Notations-specific setting and relationship field. Keep separate copies of important attachments; a Markdown export is not a complete account backup.
Can I keep a local folder?
Optional local-folder synchronization connects Markdown files with your notebook. Browser-based folder access requires a supported browser and permission to the selected folder. A separate local agent is available for supported Mac setups.
This is distinct from offline mode, which keeps a copy in your browser without requiring you to choose a folder.
What works offline?

With offline mode on, let your notebook finish syncing on each device. You can then read and write locally, with changes queued for synchronization when the connection returns. Initial sign-in, cloud AI, publishing, and enabling share links require connectivity.
