Notations focuses on writing, finding, organizing, and sharing personal notes. Notion brings documents, databases, and collaborative workspaces together. Our recommendation is to choose based on the work you need the tool to support, rather than the longest feature list.

Offline and external AI are shared capabilities
Notion supports offline pages and connections to assistants such as Claude through MCP. Notations’ distinction is the combination of a focused Markdown notebook, browser-local access, and integrated sharing—not exclusive ownership of offline mode or bring-your-own-assistant workflows.
Notion’s offline documentation describes device-specific downloads and limitations for advanced blocks. Notations also needs initial online setup and sync; cloud AI and enabling public access require connectivity. Prepare Notations for offline use.
Which should you choose?
Choose Notion if your work depends on shared databases, configurable team workflows, and collaborative pages. Those are stronger reasons to choose it than treating it as only a personal note app.
Choose Notations if you mainly want to keep notes, checklists, and AI output in an easy-to-navigate personal notebook, then share individual pages when useful.
Notion offers free and paid workspace plans, with AI availability and usage governed by its current packaging. Notations’ optional AI connections use your external assistant or provider account. Check Notion’s current plans and Notations costs and setup for your intended use.
Moving writing is different from moving a workspace
You can import supported Notion Markdown exports into Notations. Database behavior, permissions, automations, and complex app-specific layouts will not become equivalent features. Start with a few text-heavy pages and inspect the results before moving a larger collection. See import and export limitations.
